Well the wicked auld witch lives in isolation now, not for her to see wee grandkids -she's never known them - running thru her front door. Her criminal son's wife has them in the U.S - a country whoes right wing politics that she so admired has banned her son's re-entry into the Sates

The thing Thatcher will always be hated for is, when she stopped school children receiving Free milk. As far as I'm concerned Thatcher, like the rest of our PM's were, and still are, EU stooges.

As an unemployed merchant seaman, I have always hated Thatcher; she’s the one that destroyed our merchant navy (M/N) when she came into power. She NEVER wanted an M/N she only wanted Britain to have an M/N reserve. During the Falkland conflict this two faced B***H praised the seamen for their work alongside our armed forces. As soon as the conflict ended the seamen were thrown off the ships and onto the dole, they were then replaced with EU and other foreign seamen. Thatcher expected, as did all the other PM's, British reserved seamen to sail British Flagged ships during any future conflicts, and when it was over they would simply replace our seamen with EU seamen. These hypocrites’ are always talking about patriotism, Britishness and honour and at the same time stabbing everyone in the back. Like I said before, they are all EU stooges; they don’t give a dam about Britain or the people. Why do you think they have sold off most of our heritage to their masters in the EU? I pray for the day when we pull out of the EU, otherwise we will end up with a revolution in Britain.

Well as an ex-seaman, I know, and I suspect you know as well,Micheal, that the majority of Brit Merchant ships, particulary passenger liners employed 'cheap foreign labour' The P.& O line - passenger and cargo ships were notorius for this. similar 'The 'Union Castle line' and Cunard withn their passenger ships, och the list is endless same with 'Port line'/
/I have been Chief Steward /purser with the above lines - and direction from head office 'take foreign crew where possible.'

P & O on their cross channel ferries - before East European countries entered the E.U. - employed East European crew in prefereance to British as cheap labour. NOT NOW they are within the EU they have to pay crew same as Brits.

Majority of British manufacturing was NOT sold to E.U. countries but to Asian countries - again for cheap labour - even the U.S. is doing that.

Britain having 'lost' markets to commomwealth countries & Asia rely now mainly on trading with EU - 60% of our exports go there - would not if we were not in EU. Thatcher was anti- EU - Pro- U.S. as were/are all Tory governments - knowing they can't be 'top dogs' within the EU.
As posted on other threads, we come much higher for crime/prison populataion, per capita - drug/alchol abuse than or EU neighbors......maybe the only/right solutuion for our countries ills is to let he EU manage our country rolleyes.gif

Michael,Im sorry to hear you are an ue seaman.I cant really comment about the MN in the past but if both you and Tommy are in agreement who am I to disagree.
What I can say is that Ive met a number of men,all early 30s,my son included who have been in the MN less than 10 years and they are all doing really well and earning big bucks.
From what I understand British MN officers are in great demand at the moment.
Joop.

You should re-read my posts, Jupiter - am not in agreement with Micheal. British shipping companies - long before the EU, looked abroad - particulary to India/Goa/ Asia for cheap labour.

I've been on Union Castle cargo ships -trading bewteen Africa, the gulf/ Asia where directions were to go 'out of way' to pick up cheap labour from Goa - even bring some back to home port in London.

EU STOPPED them employing cheap labour - non-E.U- countries on cross channel ferries.

Strange but true.

1 out every 3 Scots voted for Maggie in 1979.

Outside of Glasgow the tory numbers showed up as 1 in 2.

Thatcher and other PM´s EU stooges ? Geezabrek!!

The UK government is invariably out of sync with the rest of EU, thus weakening the community - they cannot get rid of their empire mentality and insular " superiority". A bloody joke that is.

She's been an easy target and serves to divert attention away from the likes of Mick Martin and his ilk who have done nothing for Springburn whilst bringing disgrace on the office of Speaker and being REWARDED by a Labour PM with a nice cosy seat in the "hated" House of Lords.
You say Springburn is amongst the poorest communities in the country - that's a great achievement for a once great town within a city which has never had anything but a Labour representative in high office for as long as I can remember.

Thanks, Harry, I did mention that Springburn was the poorest constituency in the country, although Shettleston and Govan could also lay claim to that dubious title.

Rather than help heap blame on the Tories, what the poll demonstrates is the scale and depth of the problem here in Glasgow. The result of the poll is shocking: two-thirds of respondents hate the Tories. This is a symptom of a very serious problem in Glasgow that needs to be addressed. Just like a person carrying a burden of hatred, as a community, as a city, Glasgow cannot move forward until it comes to terms with this level of hatred.

My personal belief is that Glasgow needs a formal process of restorative justice to give the people the opportunity to heal this city's hurt and then, hopefully, move on. To this end, I would be in favour of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Glasgow as a means to allow the people of Glasgow to come to terms with what has happened to this city over the last four decades. If the blame falls on polticians (Conservative or Labour), on the people ourselves, or any number of other factors, then so be it. We heal, we move on.

This may sound far-fetched; however, if you take the scientific evidence from research into the Glasgow Effect and extrapolate it back 40 years, we would be examining conditions unique to Glasgow that have caused the premature deaths of up to 50,000 more Glaswegians than can be explained by poverty and deprivation alone.

Bottom line: Glasgow needs answers; the cycle of hatred in this city needs to be broken.

Let Glasgow Flourish.

GG.

Perhaps if politicians were not so naive and pompous they might actually be bothered about this "level of hatred", but we all know that's too much to ask for!!!

Let Glasgow flourish, indeed.

I saw Billy Bragg last month (yes, I know he's English). He was wearing a t-shirt which said "I still hate Thatcher". If he was selling them, he could have made a mint. Deservedly so IMHO. Others might have made mistakes, but Maggie set out to destroy traditional Scottish industry, coal, steel and engineering.

The result of your poll is a representative sample of Glasgow opinion.

Please allow a discussion of the "Socialist" Sheridan and his High Court trial for perjury.
