Hi Hugh. Aye thats correct..... I christened Joanna as the LUMBER NUMBER LOL
Those WERE the days!!!..........Joe Stringfellow(joannas DJ)

Do you remember a song that was played towards the end of the evening (slow number) by Nina Simone or someone like her? Loved the song but never found out what it was called.

You lot are obviously a lot older than me. We used to go to the Sunday night sessions in 1973. I saw my wife there for the first time although we never met until Easter 1974 in Shuffles.

At Joannas on the Sunday the last record was usually always 'When a Man loves a Woman' by Percy Sledge and if you hadn't lumbered by then you were out of luck. I often remember getting chased down to St Enochs Square for the bus home.

It was a great atmosphere for us youngsters.

Regards

Ian

It's only a few seconds, but you can see a short clip from Joanna's in the following fantastic video of Glasgow:

Many a time I tried to get in but some big bouncer kept saying - Not Tonight Boys! So we just headed for the Suave Sav! lol

Always intimidating walking pass bouncers..only been knocked back a couple of time but for some reason my pal used to get knocked back lots of times and you couldnt meet a nicer person.

Thanks for that and well done for spotting Joannas. It was exactly as I remember it with the low ceilings.

Best regards

1969 was my time at Joannas. Best time of my life. Where is the dj guy to answer my question?

Could it be "Hey there lonely girl" by Eddie Holman?

I know that ok. This was towards the end of the night when the slow stuff was played. A kinda soul song maybe a b side of Nina Simone or similar. I've never heard the song anywhere else.

Hi Joan. I played Eddie Homan`s Lonely Girl all the time. Is that the one you mean?.
Eddie holman`s voice was very high pitched which made it sound like a female voice. joe :-)

No its the opposite, female with a very deep voice. Soul or blues number. Did you ever play Nina Simone track? 69/70 was the times I went. It's not that important I just liked the song. Thanks for answering.
