I was listening to this song by Christy Moore today and wondered if anyone had heard it. Not sure how old it is. Here are the lyrics. He also sings it on You Tube but I don't have the link.

There's an easy place down Gallowgate to the East End of Glasgow
It's a ballroom of remembrance and a disco
Where the shooting stars light up the fresco
Where the last ones and the lovers go … to carry on

We sang about the Nicky Tams in the back room of the Scotia
We drank sweet wines and called for neon pints of Fidel Castro
Till it was time to fly to dreamland
Out of Bairds, up the stairs to hell or to heaven we'd go

Come all you dreamers hear the sound of the Barrows humming
Come all you dreamers to Barrowland
[ christy moore Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
Hear Mags McIvor and the ghost of the GayBirds calling
Come all you dreamers to Barrowland

The Lassies of the Broomielaw in their Cuban Heels are dancing
Here comes Our Lady of the Clyde and there goes Jinky Johnston
They've come back to rock and roll in the church of ceili
To waltz beneath the carousel of healing
To jitterbug and boogie the night away

Come all you dreamers……….

Hi GQ,

Don't recollect the Christy Moore song but Eddie Reader had a funny song out a few years ago about The Barrowlands :

It was at the Glasgow Barrowlands he asked me for a dance
I knew he was a fly man but I had to take a chance
The mirror ball was sparkling, the band played the last waltz
And when the dance was over, he asked to take me home.

It was at the Glasgow Barrowlands into his arms I fell,
He promised me silks and satin, a diamond ring as well.
I got no silk or satin, I got no diamond ring
All I got was a cradle, to rock the baby in.

So listen all you young girls and take a tip from me,
And never let a chancer, an inch above your knee !

I was in Scotland in 1968 and heard a song about the Barrowlands. All I remember is What did you see in the Barrowlands honey oh honey, what did you see in the Barrowlands honey baby, what did you see in the Barrowlands, two queers walking hand in hand. Come to the Barrowlands tonight.

Or words to that effect. Not very polite I know.
