Does anyone remember going to the jazz clubs in Glasgow in the 50's such as The Esquire in Scott Street and the Cave somewhere off Jamaica Street?

I used to go and watch the trad bands - fabulous. Would love to hear of more of those days as my memory won't take me back that far.

Fiona DUNCAN, Alex WELSH etc.

re above used to go to listen to steadfast jazz band in scout hall in cemetery rd shettleston before they moved to the "cave" off clyde st, they also made a LP would love copy any one help?

My father Eddie Paxton played clarinet and alto sax with George Penman and Alex Dalgleish.

Does anyone remember him?

I remember Eddie very well. He was a great player with a very inventive style. I always enjoyed working with him. I was the drummer with the Steadfast Jazz Band and Jimmy Galloway (RIP) Jazzmakers to mention a couple of bands from the good old days. Now living in California. Happy memories.

Hello Serabash

Just looked up a map, and found Cemetery Road. . It leads into Sandymount cemetery.
Coming from Glasgow along Shettleson Road, you turn left at Gartocher Road and Cemetery Road is first on the right.

Regards

Danny

Danny, I thought that must be the answer, as I am quite familiar with Sandymount Cemetery, being where all my paternal family are buried. I cannot for the life of me imagine a jazz club there ...but who knows ?
