People understand it ok. If they didn't understand it then it would have been an even bigger waste of half a million quid. If an unfinished slogan is all you need for a work of genius then how about..
Glasgow's miles....
I belong to.....
Shiny slogans and brochures are a waste of...

biggrin.gif What about....

GLASGOW'S GREAT.... FOR MUSIC
GLASGOW'S GREAT.... FOR ARTS
GLASGOW'S GREAT.... FOR SPORT

You get the idea!! Could have saved half a million quid there if they'd just asked us. Simples!! wink.gif

Letter to the Herald today regarding the slogan:
QUOTE
Glasgow City Council is to spend about 500,000 to develop and promote the city as a brand via the new slogan: People Make Glasgow.

What an appalling waste of money for a city which, financially, is on its knees. And how unrepresentative.

As a businessman who visits Glasgow once a month, sometimes more, I am continually taken aback by the sheer scale of poverty and deprivation in Glasgow. The regeneration of the city in the 1980s was wonderful to observe, and the Glasgow's Miles Better slogan captured its energy, vibrancy and generosity of spirit just brilliantly. That simple slogan gave Glasgow international recognition and pride in the city at the time was almost tangible. What has happened since then? Decay, dreadful leadership from the city council, a lack of vision, the worst school education results in Britain and the highest premature death rate in Britain.

Without urgent action and a sense of perspective as to how far the city continues to lurch into abject poverty, it will represent a problem which is too difficult to fix.

People Make Glasgow? A more appropriate slogan would be a take on a commonly used phrase in the city: "Poor, Dead, Not Brilliant".

GG.

Things are bad but not that bad. Yes we have poverty and deprevation but I think you will find that in most major cities. I don't think the levels are much higher than other cities but that does not excuse wasting money that could be used to tackle these problems particulary with services to the elderly and disabled being cut.

That slogan cost half a million?!!! Seems Labour (e.g. City Chambers) haven`t learned their lesson from their 2010 humiliation (pissing our money down a drain).

Why are these contracts so big? What do ad agencies do with them? How much goes on their “prestigious” city centre leases... the lavishly-furnished meeting rooms... that daily heap of “Guardian”`s at reception next to the cappuccino-dispenser?

How come the end result always look like they`ve spent 20 mins banging out any old blurb they slap on any old vox-pop digi-pic? For all their Media-PhD savvyness, like poor marksmen, they keep just-missing the target, seldom hitting the right spot. Worse than useless!

Wonder how little “Glasgow`s Miles Better” Campaign cost, inflation-adjusted?

The half a million is not just for the slogan but also the whole campaign in the uk and overseas which is not a huge amount for the whole thing. But the the whole need for a new campaign at this time is just a ridiculous waste of money. They need to get their priorities right.
The agency involved is the Glasgow Marketing Bureau wich is public - private partnership with glasgow city council and in my eyes more jobs for the boys.
