Catherine, most of the tools that do this cost money, but I think I found a freeware tool:

Photo Resizer
A FREE utility developed for digital camera owners, webmasters, people travelling or anybody who quickly wants to resize a photo or picture for email or publishing on a web site. No need to open a photo editor or email-client.

Open the photo in PhotoResizer, resize it and e-mail it to a friend, family, colleague or your office within minutes. And it also takes the addresses from your email-client's address book.

Download here:
http://www.showyourphotos.com/PhotoResizer.exe

Info here:
http://www.showyourphotos.com/photoresizer.html

This should resize and change quality levels to reduce file size...worth a try!

A suggestion on reducing bandwidth would be to close the door to guests and just have a meesage inviting them to join.
I see at the moment there are 5 members 1 anonymous and 5 guests on the board at present. While I know some of those ppl are prolly members who are not signed in at present a welcoming message inviting them to register or sign in might encourage more members.
It's something they're doing on the ezboards but then, members are being asked to contribute to costs through a community box so it means they are not paying for folk who just come for a look without actually even becoming a member of the board.
I dont do it on my board cos mine's just a small one!! LOL

hahahaha, Very good!
Naw, son, no being able tae understand ma garbled explanations disnae take ye intae the realms of Hansonism

Ezboards are just message boards similar to this one. They charge an annual fee depending on the usage. Around about the time that the fee's due you can choose to show the beggin bowl (Community chest) to ask members for contributions.

Ma wee board's a Larkhall board on ezboards
