'Anickers midden ', a well known Glesga expression when our mum's then ourselves told the children to get their bedroom cleaned up because it was like ' anicker midden ', in a right state.
When our parents went for a night out, we were always warned they better not come back to find the house like ' anickers midden'.

Anna Kerr, was a road sweeper in Glasgow and would sweep the mess into one big pile at Glasgow Cross and when children asked there mother , / what was that,, they where told it was Anikers midden, another story is that Aniker was a butcher in govan who threw out all his garbage from his business into the back court, so it was called Anikers midden. ! What a Mess !.

Nanny Goon ,Anikers midden, Oh yes I remember both of them.
The midden was in the backcourt where you emptied your garbage each day. We would take turns to take the pail down. I thought that’s where the saying came from, but I have learned something new today. The day I got my new coat for starting high school we went by to let my granny see it. She said oh my she is like nanny goon. My mother had bought it long enough for it to last all through school.

Isobel I,m just thinking that ,,Nanny Goon might have had something to do with the uniforms or the dress code that nanny,s had to wear years ago, Just a thought.
