Today I received this message from the spouse of Paul Kelly. for those of you who didn't know Paul. He was an ex Glaswegian living with his family in Botswana. Most of us who knew him got to know him through his incredibly knowledgable postings on the history of Irish surnames and their Gaelic counterparts in the Islands of Scotland. He was also very interested in his Irish Garngad history. I was pleased to share his interest in these subjects., via PMs and e mails. He will be sorley missed by his lovely young daughter and spouse and some of us on GG. May he rest in peace.

To see the kind of contributions Paul made to this board, see Glasgow Memories, Family History, then his threads, "Are the Scots Really Irish, My Garngad Family.

QUOTE
"I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I wish to inform you that Mr Paul James Kelly had a car accident on the 7th of May and did not make it.

I wish to thank you all for being part of Paul's Life and for your contribution in this difficult time. I also wish to say to you all; lets celebrate the fact that we knew this wonderful man and that he was part of our lives. do not be saddened by his departure but rember the good things that he did in this world. HE IS A HERO TO OUR FAMILY AND I HOPE HE WAS ALSO THE SAME TO YOU ALL.

Please know that his email address now does not function in the sense that it will never be accessed. I just thought you deserve to know. Sorry for the shock from the address (for those who know already).

Thank you."

Mrs Kerly D Kelly (Spouse)

Sad news indeed Ron. I enjoyed his posts, he knew so much about the early days of the clans and families in both Scotland and Ireland. Is there any way we can send condolences to his wife and daughter? He was so proud of that wee girl.

I am shocked and in tears, although I did not know Paul I did read many of his posts. He was a treasure chest of information. I did not agree with him on some occasions but respected him for who he was. He will be truly missed, my heart goes out to his family. His posts here will last for ever. Rest in Peace Paul.

Ron, this was a very tragic twist of fate which has taken the life of a well respected member of the Glasgow Guide - Paul Kelly. Paul was always ready to help when questions regarding family history came up, he was very knowledgeable in that department.
Requiescat In Pace Paul

I'm shocked and deeply saddened by this news.

I managed to get a copy of a book Paul was looking for some time ago and sent it on to him, after which he kept me up to date with his latest theories and discoveries, truly a mine of information and one of the most helpful members of GG.

My sincerest condolences to his wife and daughter, family, friends and of course, his students.

May he rest in peace.
